Best practices for more energy efficient designs.
BRS infuses proprietary Superior Seam Technology™ (SST) into all our industry leading roof systems innovations while searching outside our scope of design for complimentary products to provide greater in place performance for architects, specification writers, engineers, and owners on their projects.
BRS actively seeks “Green Energy Design” companion products to allow our standing seam roof systems along with our licensee’s single skin through fastened metal wall panels the ability to compete with dual skin Insulated Metal Panels (IMPs) without the very expensive costs associated with their usage. These two products have captured the BRS vision for a complimentary high impact in- place product energy performance.
SEALED-N-SAFE
Sealed -n- Safe thermal blocks tested values with fiberglass blanket insulation products provide outstanding energy code performances. The Double Layer Assemblies attain R-values up to an R-44 or a low U-value of 0.027. Full Cavity Assemblies using fiberglass blanket insulation products boast R-value attainment of an R-51 or low U value of 0.037. The maximum benefit are the Extended Full Cavity Assemblies that achieve an amazing R-76 value which translates into the low U value of 0.027 to handle some of the strictest energy code demand.
Metal encapsulated 1” thermal blocks
Sealed-N- Safe metal encapsulated 1” thermal blocks are an excellent inexpensive opportunity to energize faced fiberglass insulation blanket systems. The blocks provides an excellent deterrent for steel thermal short transference between exterior /interior materials allowing faced fiberglass blanket systems to perform at unexpected levels to meet the constant changing energy codes. The blocks can be utilized for standing seam roof systems and through fastened metal panels providing a means to meet energy code requirements using faced fiberglass blanket insulation products.
R-SEAL - Dual sided, faced foam board insulation with self-sealing tabs
The revolutionary R-Seal dual vapor barrier faced foam board insulation products with its proprietary formula allows single skin metal products the ability to compete with IMPs at a fraction of the in-place cost. The R-Seal insulation board products with its high R and low U values along with its OSHA approved walkability allows metal single skin to compete very easily with IMPs for initial costs, reduced labor installation costs, and improved (shorter) dry in speeds WITHOUT the need for special installation equipment. These cost saving products provide efficiency advantages for more affordable projects while placing more control within the hands of the owner, contractor, and erector. The project savings are not limited to less expensive initial material costs but provides an avenue to meet the ever-changing higher energy codes or more stringent “Green Design” code requirements.
SPRAY FOAM - Post applied “wet” spray foam review
BRS personnel sit on MBMA technical committees which includes the subcommittee that investigated the use of post applied “wet” Spray Polyurethane Foam on metal panels. The MBMA technical subcommittee investigative information along with the BRS individual investigation confirmed our view that the use of post applied polyurethane spray foam on standing seam roof systems is NOT RECOMMENDED.

However, the use of polyurethane spray foam on fixed or through fastened metal panels should be at the discretion of the panel or building manufacturer. The Metal Construction Association (MCA) white paper and BRS investigation recap is listed for individual review.
