December. The final month of the year brings many moments of anticipation such as traveling to see loved ones to share their love for each other through spending time together, the exchanging of gifts or sharing of a meal to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas - the symbolic day to rejoice in the  birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Other moments may lead each one to reflect on the events, accomplishments, opportunities and failures of the passing year while contemplating on the refreshing hope of what is to come in approaching the New Year.

BRS would like to thank each of its licensees, strategic partners and trade associates for another successful year in 2019. We wish to highlight some of the events/accomplishments that made 2019 a special year. The Superior Seam Technology® (SST) family welcomed another new team member when Reed’s Metals, LLC of Brookhaven, MS became the most recent company to license the highest performing standing seam roofing system in the industry - TS324.  Many other license holders already enjoy the advantages and benefits of manufacturing/supplying the industry’s leading roof system(s). Some licensees have received and utilized the latest BRS generic TS324, Panel Craft 216/218 panel profile and /or “Why SSR”- informational overview sales power point presentations to assist their sales efforts. These power point presentations are available to all license holders that requests them, please contact BRS for your copy.

BRS was granted its latest patent in October 2019 for the industry changing High Capacity Rake plate with its 7” of travel while being up to 4 times stronger in edge/corner zones than the current slot with shoulder fastener industry standard. IBC 2018 and ASCE7-16 have rewritten the criteria for all metal standing seam roofing edge/corner zones codes which makes the slotted shoulder plates unable to meet the more stringent new criterion. The innovational high capacity rake plate was third party tested for uplift code adherence and the success of this part will make all other standing seam roof system rake/gable edge details obsolete. BRS offers the High capacity Rake plate in its’ standard “Z” shape, but the part can also be produced in an “L” shape for those that prefer a shape for their rake starter detail.

In late 2019, BRS has announced the retirement of the slot shoulder rake/eave plate effective December 31, 2020. The product retirement of these parts as the previously noted reasons including the new edge/corner zone code mandates all metal standing seam roof systems must meet. Additionally, BRS added 2”, 2-1/2” and 3” heights to the new rake and eave plates to accommodate the higher extended standoff clip offerings and the need for thicker insulation systems.  BRS suggests that any licensee that has not transitioned over to exclusive use of the patented High Capacity Rake plate at their rake/gable details to begin to do so at their earliest convenience to utilize this selling and performance advantage over their competitors. BRS has updated generic architectural details for the High Capacity Rake plate, third party testing and technical bulletins for licensees to assist in gable/rake design conversion.

The ARCAT fee-based SST website listing continues to be a very valuable and inexpensive investment for the participating license holders. These coalition members are enjoying over 2 million ARCAT site listing visits by architects, owners, engineers and specification writers seeking to use the SST roofing systems as the base specification documents of 4,835 Division 076100 projects SST was the base design spec in 190 or 3.9% of the total bid projects. Contact BRS office if you are not a member of this leading coalition of license holders and wish to become one.

Unfortunately, for only the second time since 2007, BRS initiated a small across the board price increase for clips and accessories.

LOOKING FORWARD TO 2020.
BRS wants to wish all its license holders, trade associates and strategic partners a very blessed and prosperous New Year. The hope and anticipation of beginning a fresh new page of a new year allows each of us to begin to paint the uncharted territory with lofty and attainable aspirations with the knowledge that failures are opportunities to succeed on the lessons learned. BRS expects 2020 to be an exciting and profitable year for all our associates. We will be revealing some SST inspired product improvements, seeking additional growth opportunities with existing and new licensees through the innovative Alpha/Ascension licensing programs. There will be some renewed emphasis on untapped or overlooked BRS product treasures such as the Module Clamp, Panel Craft 216/218 back up plates, 8”, 12”, 16” wind clips, extended standoff clips( thicker insulation/retrofit systems)  and panel check gauges (dog bones) for licensee production line tolerances and panel profile accountability.

For added licensee assurance to end users, BRS offers fee-based in-house lab panel Quality Control checks either monthly, quarterly or bi-annually which includes an in-depth written report identifying problem areas requiring adjustments to bring the panel profile into design specification compliance. A few license holders will experience unanticipated issues during the upcoming year.  However, BRS will be there to provide world class technical, sales and innovation support to seek successful outcome solutions for those that may require a little more assistance during unforeseen stressful occurrences during the upcoming year.
